Morrisonville EMS was established in 1982 by a small group of volunteers who recognized a need for an ambulance to be based within the community. From these humble beginnings, we have grown into one of the top agencies in the area. In fact, Morrisonville EMS has been recognized by the Mountain Lakes Regional EMS Council as Agency of the Year, as well as by the State of New York as Agency of the Year.
The agency is overseen by a Board of Directors elected from the volunteer ranks. These 5 individuals bring an astounding number combined years of experience in EMS to the table, as well as a vareity of knowledge and insight attained from other aspects of their lives. They receive no compensation for their time, and dedicate hundreds of hour annually to ensure the continued success of the agency.
Today, Morrisonville EMS consists of many dedicated volunteer and paid personnel, working towards the same goal of providing prompt, top-notch emergency medical care to those that live, work and travel through our primary operating area, which is the western portion of the Town of Plattsburgh, including the hamlet of Cadyville, as well as the entire Town of Schuyler Falls. In 2014, the Town of Altona awarded a contract to Morrisonville EMS to supplement their town's volunteer fire department. Their has been a seamless integration of our staff into the community in Altona, and the Altona Fire Department has also welcomed the help with open arms. Our expansion has continued in 2016, with the signing of an agreement to provide staff to cover the Town of Clinton.
The Altona Fire Station, Churbusco Fire Station, and Morrisonville Ambulance Station are staffed 24 Hours a day, 365 days a year with 2 person crew, consisting of 1 Basic EMT and 1 Advanced Critical Care EMT. When not answering 911 calls, the staff is responsible for various administrative work, as well as maintaining the station, its grounds, and the fleet of apparatus. Volunteer personnel act as ambassadors to the community, and can regularly be seen at public gatherings in the area to provide immediate assistance to the public, in addition to being ever-ready to respond to assist the staff in with multiple or high accuity calls.
